YOUR RIGHT TO UNIONIZE (back to Issues & Positions)

Massachusetts’s working families are struggling to make ends meet each day and the middle class is disappearing faster that you can say OUTSOURCING. The best opportunity working people have to get ahead economically is by uniting to bargain with their employers for better wages and benefits. Recent research has shown that some thousands of Massachusetts residents would join a union but don’t do so because they would be fired.

Today if a worker wants to join or form a union; they have to clandestinely work with co-workers and a union official to form a union to collectively bargain for a better life. However every day, corporations deny workers the freedom to decide for themselves whether to form unions to bargain for a better life. They routinely intimidate, harass, coerce and even fire workers who try to form unions and bargain for economic well-being.

I believe we need to work on Beacon Hill and Capital Hill to restore workers’ freedom to choose a union or we are heading toward a society in which we have only rich and poor.
